RBS Group
Innovation and Enterprise
The RBS Group has always believed in the importance of innovation.
As long ago as 1728 they allowed William Hogg, a merchant, to have an overdraft of £1000. They were the first bank to provide this service.
Throughout the years they have led the way with new ideas including schemes like hire purchase (1954), a house purchase loan scheme (1972), and insurance negotiated directly through the telephone (1985). In 1997 they were the first British bank to launch a comprehensive internet banking service.
