Merrill Lynch
Principles
Merrill Lynch has Principles guiding how it operates both as an organisation and as an employer.
The Merrill Lynch Principles are:
- Client Focus
- Respect for the Individual
- Teamwork
- Responsible Citizenship
- Integrity.
As teams increasingly work all over the world it is important that these values are shared and followed by all employees.
Welcoming diversity
Clients in different countries have different needs. What might work well in one country may well not work in another. Understanding and welcoming these differences – or diversity as it is sometimes called – is essential if a multi-national company is to survive.
Employees in locations sometimes thousands of miles away from head office also need to be able to feel as much a part of the organisation as those who are based in the United States.
Diversity in the workplace
Diversity in the workplace means ensuring that everyone in the company is treated equally irrespective of race, gender or ability.
Making sure that everyone in the company feels valued is one way of getting the best contribution from staff.
What do you think?
1. Do you think everyone in your school is valued as an individual no matter what their race, beliefs, gender or ability?
2. What evidence can you list to support your view?
3. Suggest three ways in which your school could do more to promote and celebrate difference in your school.
