Helping Enterprising Londoners

What happened?

Linklaters provided GLE oneLondon with:

  • General advice on how to set up the Wholesale Loan Fund. The aim of the Wholesale Loan Fund was to enable small businesses to apply for funding and also to offer a range of support services
  • Advice on the financing arrangements behind the business
  • Help in drafting important legal documents, for example, agreements about how to manage the company and the involvement of the shareholders
  • Creating a workable system for making future loans by drawing up finance and security documents.

Many local small businesses were given the help they needed to start-up or grow. These are stories of a few individuals who have been helped.

Andrew Smith received £7,500 to buy equipment to help start Eat Me Ltd, which produces crisps from exotic fruits, providing a healthy alternative to sweets.

Once you work for yourself you’ll never want to go back. It's an amazing opportunity. You can work as hard for yourself as you can for someone else and the benefits are a hundred times more rewarding.

Idris Hussein needed £15,000 to expand 'In Tha House Music and Records', a gospel music outlet.

I remember when I went into a bank to meet the manager to ask for £70,000. Looking back, he was probably laughing behind his chair thinking, 'he means well but if you’ve got no collateral and no experience, we’re not going to give you the money'.

Christina Ezelio established Waterfield Supported Homes as a residential care home. She needed an extra £7,500 to open the home.

As well as a loan I’ve had a lot of practical support: they gave me a mentor who was running through everything to make sure I got it right.
