Humanutopia
Principles
Humanutopia is committed to 'the changes we want to see in the world'. So they believe the way their company is run must reflect the values they teach. A set of principles or ethics makes this clear.
People ethics
The company puts 'people first' and values highly the relationships they build with everyone. Graham and Carlo understand that they are role models for many people and so their behaviour influences the way the company is seen.
Personal ethics:
Humanutopia also has a set of principles which guide their personal lives. Graham and Carlo want to lead a healthy life by eating well, taking plenty of exercise and working sensible hours. They don’t smoke, drink or take drugs. They think it's important to be in a positive, creative frame of mind when they are working.
Corporate ethics:
The company is an environmentally friendly organisation, using only recycled paper, diesel cars and public transport whenever possible. Mobile phones are only used in an emergency.
Graham and Carlo like to work with people who also have a similar set of ethical principles. This includes working in partnerships with schools that are committed to putting people first.
What do you think?
If you were to start up a business of your own what would you want to include as your most important principles?
Would you tell anyone about these principles?
Would you write them down?
