Humanutopia

Are you a hero or a zero?

What happened?

Humanutopia devised a programme called PAL (Preparing for Adult Life) which they piloted at Harefield Academy. The aim is to inspire young people to become enterprising by developing personal, social and commercial enterprise skills. The programme gives young people confidence and self belief.

One module is called 'Heroes'. Students are challenged to decide whether they want to be a 'hero' or a 'zero'. They take a look at their self image, attitude and behaviour. There is a chance to explore the effects of peer pressure, conformity and bullying.

The students then have the opportunity to become a positive role model for younger children both in and out of school. They take part in practical projects which make a difference to the lives of the people they are working with. These are social enterprise projects; in other words, their main purpose is to benefit people in the community.
