Recruiting the best people for Google

The outcome

Tim was one of the applicants who joined Google after winning the "Google Big Idea Challenge".

When he saw the ad, Tim recognised the Google brand straight away – and the application process and job sounded interesting. He liked the fact that there was a sense of humour to it – it was fun to apply for, as it wasn’t as formal as other application methods. Tim felt it kept the human touch. He hadn’t seen any other job applications quite like this before.

Once Tim's application was reviewed, he was invited to the Google office to present his idea in front of the other 20 shortlisted applicants and a panel of senior Google staff. He was then called back to a formal interview and finally offered a job at Google.

After nine months at Google, Tim still thinks that it is a good first place to work, compared to his friends working at other companies, he feels that there is just the right mix of a lot of guidance and early responsibility.

Overall this initiative illustrates how Google identified a challenge, set an objective and solved it in a creative way, keeping true to being "Googley" and entrepreneurial.
