About the case studies
The BT case studies about how the company approaches Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). CSR is about how a company tries to make sure that it supports communities and makes an investment in their future. CSR requires companies to consider the interests of society by taking responsibility for the impact of their activities.
The government gives incentives to companies which demonstrate good CSR policies.
The first case study explains why BT has adopted its current approach to CSR. The second case study looks at aspects of BT’s Better World campaign which is one way in which the company demonstrates its commitment to improving the everyday life of people and their communities all over the world.
You are invited to think about what you would do if you were in business and wanted to be known as a socially responsible company. You will find out that it is important to meet the needs of all stakeholders like shareholders, employees and customers. Remember though, different stakeholders often want different things, and this can cause an 'ethical dilemma'.
Companies like BT go beyond the statutory obligation (glossary) and voluntarily take positive steps to benefit not only their stakeholders but also their local communities and the wider society.
