Driving in India
Country of operation: India
Background
Castrol India Ltd was faced with a serious problem.
India is a huge country and the road network is underdeveloped and dangerous. Yet trucks used by Castrol to transport their products cover 25 million kilometres a year on these hazardous roads.
The truck drivers are involved in a high number of road accidents, many of them resulting in serious injuries and sometimes death. As well as the loss of human life the accidents also lead to valuable stock being damaged so Castrol cannot deliver the goods on time to its customers.
The managers at Castrol recognised that this was an issue that needed action if lives were to be saved.
